EDITORS COMMENTS
"Lady Rosemary Leveson-Gower, the only daughter of Millicent, Duchess of Sutherland and Cromartie Sutherland Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland, is pictured in this elegant portrait from 1913. At the time, Lady Rosemary was a young and vibrant aristocrat, known for her beauty and grace. She would go on to marry William Ward, 3rd Earl of Dudley, in 1919. This photograph, published in The Bystander, captures Lady Rosemary in her prime, before she was struck down by an unidentified illness. The magazine described her as the latest victim of a fashionable malady, whatever that may have meant. Sadly, Lady Rosemary's life was cut short when she was killed in a plane crash near Meopham, Kent, in 1930, at the age of just 36. The aristocracy and society of the early 20th century were fascinated by the lives of the wealthy and influential, and Lady Rosemary was no exception. Her tragic death at a young age only added to her mystique and enduring allure. This portrait serves as a poignant reminder of a bygone era, when the lives of the aristocracy were played out in the pages of society magazines and the public hung on their every move." Lady Rosemary Leveson-Gower's life was marked by beauty, privilege, and ultimately, tragedy. This portrait offers a glimpse into her past, a time when the aristocracy held a powerful sway over society and the media. It is a reminder of the human stories that lie behind the grand titles and opulent lifestyles.
