Countess Percy, formerly Lady Helen Gordon-Lennox, daughter of the Duke of Richmond and later Duchess of Northumberland. She married Earl Percy in 1911. He succeeded to the dukedom in 1918. Pictured in The Sketch in 1914 who describes her as a giver of voluntary aid and a war worker. She was President of he Morayshire branch of the Red Cross Society, Vice-President of a branch in Kent and author of a book on " Voluntary Aid." She was Mistress of the Robes to Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother from 1937 to 1964 and was appointed a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order in 1938. Date: 1914

This photograph captures Lady Percy, later Duchess of Northumberland, in 1914, during a pivotal moment in her remarkable life. Born as Lady Helen Gordon-Lennox, the daughter of the Duke of Richmond, she would later marry Earl Percy in 1911. When Earl Percy succeeded to the dukedom in 1918, she became the Duchess of Northumberland. At the onset of World War I, Lady Percy was an active participant in the war effort, giving her time and resources to voluntary aid and war work. She served as the President of the Morayshire branch of the Red Cross Society and was a Vice-President of a branch in Kent.
