This handcoloured copperplate engraving depicts the Spring and Pool of Siloam, located outside the ancient walls of Jerusalem's Old City. The image, created by Corsi after Giulio Ferrario in his "Costumes Ancient and Modern of the Peoples of the World" published in Florence in 1833, offers a glimpse into the historical and biblical significance of this site. The Pool of Siloam, a vital water source for the city, is situated in the Kidron Valley, near the southern wall of the Old City. The spring, which is believed to have been used since ancient times, is mentioned in the New Testament, specifically in the Gospel of John (9:1-7), where a man born blind is healed by Jesus. The engraving shows the spring with a bridge crossing over it, allowing access to the Pool. The clear waters of the spring are surrounded by lush vegetation, and the valley beyond is dotted with trees and buildings.
