This evocative photograph captures the enigmatic figure of Thomas Edward Lawrence, better known as Lawrence of Arabia, during his pivotal role in the Arab Revolt against Ottoman Turkish rule during World War I. Dressed in traditional Arab attire and seated in the arid desert landscape, Lawrence cuts an imposing figure as he gazes intently off into the distance. Born in Wales in 1888, Lawrence joined the British Army as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Royal Artillery in 1910.
