EDITORS COMMENTS
Caring for the environment. . . Three schools in Rawthorpe joined forces to make a positive impact on their surroundings. On a sunny day in July 1990, Rawthorpe Infant, Junior, and High Schools collaborated on a 'litter alert' initiative. Equipped with tools provided by Kirklees Council, the students dedicated themselves to cleaning up litter around their school premises. The enthusiastic young minds were not only committed to tidying up but also took part in an uplifting tree-planting activity within their school grounds. With smiles radiating from their faces, these pupils embraced nature as they planted vibrant wildflowers all around them. This heartwarming snapshot captures the essence of children's dedication towards safeguarding our planet. It serves as a reminder that even at such tender ages, youngsters possess immense potential to bring about change and nurture environmental consciousness. The photograph is reminiscent of simpler times when communities came together for common causes. It reflects the values of education and instilling responsibility towards our surroundings from an early age. The image encapsulates the spirit of camaraderie among these West Yorkshire schools as they unitedly tackled environmental issues plaguing their locality. Preserved through time, this print stands as a testament to the efforts made by these three schools in Rawthorpe during that summer day back in 1990 – reminding us that caring for our environment is everyone's responsibility.
