This evocative image captures the final moments of Joan of Arc, the legendary heroine and warrior maiden of France, before her execution on May 30, 1431, in Rouen, Normandy. Born in Domrémy, Lorraine, in eastern France, Joan of Arc (1412-1431) rose to prominence during the Hundred Years' War between France and England.
