Universe time line, artwork

Big Bang and Evolution of Galaxies - The observable Universe is about 84 billion light years across. According to the standard view of cosmolog, the Universe underwend a brief period of super-fast expansion in its earliest moments. However, it doesn t look infinite because we can only see light from galaxies that has had time to reach us in the 13, 7 billion years since the Big Bang. This is an artists concept of the Universe expansion, where space (including hypothetical non-observable portionsof the Universe) is represented at each time by the circular sections. Note on the left the dramatic expansion (not to scale) occurring in the inflationary epoch, and at the center the expansion acceleration. The Universe is observed by many instruments from space today. Here the Hubble Telescope and the Kepler Telescope are pictured for their representation

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Universe Time Line" takes us on a mesmerizing journey through the vastness of space and time. Created by artist Detlev van Ravenswaay, it beautifully illustrates the evolution of galaxies and the expansion of our observable universe. The artwork begins with the iconic Big Bang, representing the birth of our universe. From there, we witness an incredible period of rapid expansion known as inflationary epoch, depicted by a dramatic enlargement on the left side. As we move towards the center, we see how this expansion continues to accelerate over time. Intriguingly, despite its immense size, our universe does not appear infinite due to limitations in light travel. The circular sections in this artwork symbolize different moments in time and space throughout cosmic history. To observe these wonders from afar, modern technology plays a crucial role. The Hubble Telescope and Kepler Telescope are featured here as representatives of numerous instruments used for astronomical research today. These technological marvels enable us to study distant galaxies, map cosmic radiation patterns, and delve into theories about dark matter and energy. As we contemplate this breathtaking image print, it reminds us that our understanding of the universe is constantly evolving. It serves as a testament to humanity's insatiable curiosity about our origins and place within this vast cosmos.
