EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph showcases the sleek and innovative design of the Boeing 247D, a historic aircraft that revolutionized air travel in the 1930s. The image, taken from an angle that accentuates its streamlined wings and elegant curves, reveals the intricate details of the plane's exterior. The Boeing 247D, registered as NC13344 and operated by United Air Lines, is shown taxing on the tarmac, its powerful engines idling in the background. The Boeing 247D was the world's first modern transport aircraft, featuring a metal monocoque fuselage and retractable landing gear. It could carry more passengers and fly farther than any other commercial aircraft of its time, making it a game-changer in the aviation industry. With a cruising speed of 185 miles per hour and a range of over 1,000 miles, it set new standards for air travel and paved the way for the development of larger and more advanced aircraft. The Boeing 247D made its first flight on December 28, 1933, and entered commercial service in 1934. It remained in production until 1942, with a total of 135 units built. This photograph, taken during the 1930s or 1940s, captures a moment in aviation history when innovation and progress were at the forefront of air travel.
