The Oaks, one of the most prestigious and longest-running races in the history of horse racing, took place on Epsom Downs in Surrey, England on June 7, 1867. Hippia, a chestnut mare, was ridden by jockey J.P. Webster and owned by the influential 7th Earl of Ilchester.
