Maria Christina, Duchess of Teschen, also known as Mimi (1742-1798), was a prominent figure in the Austrian aristocracy during the 18th century. Born into the powerful House of Habsburg-Lorraine, she held the significant position of Governor of the Austrian Netherlands from 1781 until 1793. In this elegant portrait, the Duchess is depicted in a seated position, adorned in the latest fashion of the time. She wears an ornate headdress, adorned with delicate feathers and jewels, and holds a fan in her right hand. A large, colorful necklace and earrings add to her regal appearance.
