German Renaissance polychrome painted plaster work, (1898). Figs 1-10: Portions of the painted wood ceiling in the knights -hall of the Castle at Heiligenberg. Fig 11: Console-figure from the arcades of the former " Lusthaus" at Stuttgart. Figs 12 and 13: Scutcheons carved from peartree-wood in the Museum vaterlandischer Altertumer at the same place, being part of the former furniture of a hunting-chamber belonging to the family Besserer at Ulm. Carved stags-heads with rare attires are fixed in the oval nombrils...The female figure in Fig 11 represents Ursula, by birth Countess Palatine by Rhine, consort of Duke Lewis [Ludwig], the builder of the " Lusthaus". In the " Lusthaus" however, which unfortunately exists no more, another figure stood on the represented console, the coat of arms referring to that. At one time about 50 such console-figures decorated the arcades surrounding those gorgeous buildings. Plate 72 from " The Historic Styles of Ornament" translated from the German of H. Dolmetsch. This print showcases the exquisite German Renaissance polychrome painted plaster work from 1898. The creator of this remarkable artwork remains unknown, adding an air of mystery to its beauty. Figs 1-10 depict portions of a stunning painted wood ceiling found in the knights-hall of the Castle at Heiligenberg, transporting viewers back in time to a bygone era. Fig 11 introduces us to a console-figure that once graced the arcades of the former "Lusthaus" in Stuttgart. This female figure represents Ursula, Countess Palatine by Rhine and consort of Duke Lewis (Ludwig), who was responsible for constructing the "Lusthaus". Sadly, this magnificent structure no longer exists today, making this photograph all the more precious. Figs 12 and 13 feature scutcheons carved from peartree-wood that were part of the furniture collection belonging to the Besserer family's hunting-chamber in Ulm. These intricately carved stags-heads with rare attires are fixed within oval nombrils, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship and attention to detail. The entire collection presented here is captured in Plate 72 from "The Historic Styles of Ornament" translated from H. Dolmetsch's original German text. Published by B. T. Batford in London during 1898, this book serves as a testament to preserving and appreciating historical art forms like these splendid examples of German Renaissance design.
