EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness a significant moment in the history of Mayday Hospital in Croydon, Greater London. Denis Sweaney, the esteemed chairman of Croydon Area Health Authority, can be seen using a trowel to meticulously smooth the final batch of concrete during the topping out ceremony for the services block. The occasion was held on May Day itself, adding an extra layer of symbolism and celebration to this momentous event. Laings Southern Region had been awarded the prestigious contract for phase one of a multi-million pound redevelopment project at Mayday Hospital. This included constructing a new three-storey surgical block connected to a service block by bridge. During the ceremony, Frank Bryer, joint managing director of the Construction Company responsible for this remarkable feat, presented Denis Sweaney with an engraved silver trowel as recognition for his invaluable contribution. The significance and grandeur of this occasion were further highlighted by the release of Template -the first installment in a series of printed information leaflets by the commissioning team. This informative booklet provided detailed descriptions about various aspects related to both the topping out ceremony and floor-by-floor diagrams showcasing these state-of-the-art facilities. This awe-inspiring photograph captures not only an important milestone in Mayday Hospital's development but also serves as a testament to human ingenuity and dedication towards improving healthcare infrastructure within our communities.
