This stunning chromolithograph depicts a Silver-grey Dorking hen, a breed of domestic fowl that was the pride of Victorian poultry shows during the late 19th century. Bred by O.F. Cresswell, this Silver-grey Dorking hen was a first prize winner at Ashford and a second prize winner at Birmingham in 1872. The intricately detailed illustration was created by J.W. Ludlow and published by Vincent Brooks Day & Son, based on an original work from Lewis Wright's "The Illustrated Book of Poultry." The Silver-grey Dorking hen, a variety of the native British breed Dorking, was popular for its unique silver-grey plumage and elegant shape.
