In this photograph, His Royal Highness Frederick William of Prussia (1831-1888), later known as Emperor Frederick III of Germany and Kaiser Fritz of Prussia, is depicted receiving the prestigious Order of the Garter from Queen Victoria (1819-1901) in the hallowed Chapter Room at Windsor Castle. The investiture took place in 1858, following Frederick's marriage to Victoria's eldest daughter, Princess Royal Victoria (Vicky) (1840-1901).
