Jigsaw Puzzle : Dry end of paper-making machine
Jigsaw Puzzles from Science Photo Library
Dry end of paper-making machine
Paper manufacture. The dry end of a paper-making machine in a pulp and paper plant. Paper is made from vegetable fibre, mainly from wood pulp. Soft woods such as spruce and fir, as well as poplar, are debarked, ground and pressed into sheets. The pulp is then chemically treated to improve resistance to tearing, bleached, and passed through heavy rollers to give a smooth finish. The paper may be coated with clay or other mineral pigments if a better surface is required

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the dry end of a paper-making machine in a pulp and paper plant. The intricate process of transforming vegetable fiber, primarily wood pulp, into high-quality paper is beautifully captured here. Softwoods like spruce, fir, and poplar undergo debarking before being ground and pressed into sheets. To enhance its durability against tearing, the pulp is chemically treated and then subjected to bleaching. Next, it passes through heavy rollers that lend a smooth finish to the paper. If an even better surface is desired, clay or other mineral pigments may be applied as a coating. The image encapsulates the essence of industrial production within the mill setting. It highlights how this complex machinery operates seamlessly to manufacture one of our most essential materials - paper. Science Photo Library has expertly documented this fascinating aspect of our everyday lives with their attention to detail in capturing every step involved in creating quality paper products. This particular photograph offers viewers an insight into the meticulous processes employed by professionals working tirelessly behind-the-scenes at these plants. As we admire this stunning visual representation, let us appreciate both the artistry and science that go hand-in-hand when producing such vital commodities for various applications across industries worldwide.
