This exquisite painting depicts a Black-rumped Flameback Woodpecker (Dinopium benghalense), also known as the Black Rumped Flameback or the Lesser Flameback, perched on a tree branch. The bird's vibrant red crest and underparts contrast sharply with its black back and rump, making it a striking and easily identifiable species. The Black-rumped Flameback is a medium-sized woodpecker native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia. It is a member of the Picidae family, which includes other well-known woodpeckers such as the Hairy Woodpecker and the Pileated Woodpecker. In this painting, the woodpecker is shown with its distinctive long, curved beak, which it uses to drill into trees in search of insects and other food sources. The tree in the background is adorned with lush, green leaves, adding to the sense of depth and naturalism in the artwork.
