RMS Titanic - Harland and Wolff drawing of floating crane
RMS Titanic - extremely rare Harland and Wolff linen backed scale drawing of the 150-200 ton 1- 80 scale floating crane, designed by Bertha Krupps and fabricated by Benrather Maschinenfabrik AG. The crane was designed to assist in the building of the 400 class liners Olympic, Titanic and Britannic. Too large to transport from Germany, it was sent in kit form and built on site. This very rare plan shows all aspects of the crane's construction and uses a diagram of the Lusitania for scale purposes. Without this crane and the Arrol gantry the 400 class liners could not have been constructed. This plan forms an integral part of the story of the Olympic class liners at the very beginning of their careers. 57.5 x 37.5 inches

EDITORS COMMENTS
This extraordinary linen-backed scale drawing from Harland and Wolff showcases the 150-200 ton floating crane, a pivotal engineering marvel designed by Bertha Krupps and fabricated by Benrather Maschinenfabrik AG. The crane, too large to be transported from Germany, was sent in kit form and assembled on-site at the Belfast shipyard to aid in the construction of the 400 class ocean liners, RMS Olympic, RMS Titanic, and RMS Britannic. Measuring 57.5 x 37.5 inches, this rare and intricately detailed plan illustrates every aspect of the crane's construction. A diagram of the RMS Lusitania is included for scale purposes, emphasizing the colossal size of the crane required to build the 400 class liners. Without the assistance of this crane and the Arrol gantry, these iconic vessels could not have been constructed. This unique plan is an integral part of the story of the Olympic class liners at the very beginning of their careers. It offers a fascinating glimpse into the engineering feats and complex logistics involved in the creation of these legendary ocean giants. The drawing is a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the engineers and craftsmen who brought these magnificent ships to life.
