Miles M.18 Mk.2 G-AHKY (msn 466, ex HM545), with race number 39, at Coventry - Baginton. The sole M.18 Mk.2, flew from Woodley in November 1939. Carrying the s/n HM545, it was evaluated by 759 Naval Air Squadron, then went to the Central Flying School in February 1941 and then at the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment, Boscombe Down in May 1941. Thereafter it became a communications aircraft with Miles Aircraft, being registered G-AHKY on 26 April 1946. Date: circa 1960

This photograph showcases Miles M.18 Mk.2 G-AHKY (msn 466, ex HM545) in its prime at Coventry - Baginton airfield around 1960. The sole surviving example of the M.18 Mk.2, this aircraft made its first flight from Woodley in November 1939, carrying the service number HM545. After evaluation by 759 Naval Air Squadron, it was assigned to the Central Flying School in February 1941, and later, to the Aeroplane & Armament Experimental Establishment (A&AEE) at Boscombe Down in May 1941 for further testing. Following the war, the versatile M.18 Mk.2 transitioned into communications duties with Miles Aircraft and was registered as G-AHKY on 26 April 1946. The race number '39' adorns its side, adding an intriguing layer to its history. This iconic aeronautical marvel continues to captivate aviation enthusiasts with its rich past and significant contributions to aviation technology.
