A sobering thought from Mirounga Leonina. Man, what a party that was! And it shows Featured 00071 Image

A sobering thought from Mirounga Leonina. Man, what a party that was! And it shows

A sobering thought from Mirounga Leonina. Man, what a party that was! And it shows. Spot, the southern elephant seal, did a bit of celebrating in the fish pond at Edinburgh Zoo, Scotland, recently. The poor chap took things a bit too far. Now he's paying for it. He still sees pink men before his eyes. Mind you, Spot-real name Mirounga leonina-should be getting used to all that drink and rich food by now. Considering he spends 50 weeks of the year in the pond...eating 300 fish a day. Still, he's just a youngster of seven. Though a rather weighty one at two tons. What does he do the other two weeks of the year? Spot goes on shore to grow it's pretty cold back home in South Georgia. And not much better in Edinburgh. Spot "swims off" the results of all that rich food and drink. January 1969 P000756

Sailor Home: They'd only been married four days, and had been separated for 10 long

Sailor Home: They'd only been married four days, and had been separated for 10 long months that is why it was any porthole in a storm of emotion which boiled up when the interrupted honeymooners caught sight of each other again. The scene happened on destroyer H.M.S. Decoy, home at Deyonport after 10 months service in the Mediterranean which brought home bridegroom M.E.I. Ken Stapleton, 21 who had to leave England and home and Beauty so soon. His pretty slender bride Marjorie, 21 rushed to find him soon as the warship docked, but in the crowd of relatives that swarmed on board, couldn't get through the gangway soon enough, so she just wriggled through the open porthole right in-to Ken's arms. Ken and Marjorie live at Bricham, Devon. He is a National Serviceman, and she a shop assistant. January 1957
