The Arlington Grange was one of the first of the Great Western Cos Grange classe of 4-6-0 mixed traffic locomotives to enter service in 1936. Weighting 114 tons and designed for dealing more satisfactorily with fast freight services at heavy excursion trains, they were similar in design and appearance to the " Hell" class, but had smaller driving wheels. They replaced a 2-6-0 type which had been condemned. The Arlington Grange was built at Swindon. 15th December 1968

The Arlington Grange: A Testament to Great Western Cos Engineering Brilliance In this photo print, we are transported back to the 1960s, a time when steam engines ruled the railways. Standing tall and proud is The Arlington Grange, one of the pioneering locomotives from the esteemed Great Western Cos Grange class. This magnificent 4-6-0 mixed traffic locomotive entered service in 1936, marking a new era of efficient transportation. Weighing an impressive 114 tons, The Arlington Grange was specifically designed to handle fast freight services and heavy excursion trains with utmost satisfaction. Its striking design closely resembled that of its renowned counterpart, the 'Hell' class; however, it boasted smaller driving wheels for enhanced performance. This particular locomotive played a significant role in replacing its condemned predecessor - a less capable 2-6-0 type. Built at Swindon by skilled engineers who poured their expertise into every detail, The Arlington Grange symbolized engineering brilliance and innovation. As we gaze upon this remarkable piece of history frozen in time on December 15th, 1968, we can't help but marvel at its grandeur and imagine the countless journeys it embarked upon during its service years. Let this print serve as a reminder of our rich railway heritage and pay homage to those who dedicated their lives to shaping our transport industry.
