EDITORS COMMENTS
This photograph captures Harold Pyott, also known as Tiny Tim the English Midget, at the age of 43, standing proudly with his manager, Clarence, in 1930. Measuring only 23 inches in height and weighing a mere 24 pounds, Harold held the distinction of being Britain's smallest ever man. Although he was twelve inches shorter than the famed Tom Thumb (Charles Stratton) of P.T. Barnum's circus, Harold's unique size and charm made him a popular figure in his own right. Legend has it that during World War 1, Harold was called up to the army three times due to his age, but the recruiters, taken aback by his size, ultimately rejected him each time. Despite this setback, Harold's career as a performer continued to thrive in various sideshows and attractions. In this image, Harold's manager, Clarence, stands beside him, adding a sense of scale to Harold's diminutive stature. The photograph serves as a fascinating glimpse into the world of little-known performers and the unique challenges they faced during this era. This photograph is a testament to the resilience and determination of Harold Pyott, who, despite his small size, left an indelible mark on history as Tiny Tim the English Midget, the Living Doll.
