The illustration was drawn by Jean Gabriel Pretre and engraved by Stanghi, with the publication overseen by the renowned French botanical illustrator Pierre Jean Francois Turpin (1775-1840). The image showcases two intriguing marine creatures: the Greater Argonaut Octopus (Argonauta argo) and the Winged Argonaut (Argonauta hians). The Greater Argonaut, also known as the "beaked octopus," is depicted with a long, curved beak and eight arms, each adorned with two rows of suckers.
