Lea Grauvogel-Stamm, palaeontologist C018 / 9410

Lea Grauvogel-Stamm (born 1940), French palaeontologist, using tools to uncover fossils in a sandstone quarry in the Vosges mountain range, France. Grauvogel-Stamm obtained her doctorate in 1978 from the University of Strasbourg. The fossils here are found in clay and sandstone layers deposited by ancient rivers. They date from 240 million years ago, during the Triassic. Grauvogel-Stamm maintains one of the worlds largest private collections of fossils, the Grauvogel-Gall collection. Named for the Grauvogels and palaeontologist Jean-Claude Gall, the collection includes fossils discovered by Grauvogel-Stamms father Louis Grauvogel
