Greenisland Viaducts, LMS poster, 1923-1947
Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) to advertise the Greenisland Loop Line in Country Atrim, Northern Ireland. The Greenisland Loop Line, which opened in 1934, was constructed to eliminate the necessity of trains to and from Belfast and stations in the North running via Greenisland. The line was approximately 3 miles in length. The Main Line Viaduct was the largest reinforced concrete viaduct in the British Isles. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson, who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railways and organised the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924. National Railway Museum is the home of iconic locomotives. Our historic prints reflect the age and quality of the original artwork we hold to preserve their artistic character, including authentic colour reproduction, marks and creases. © Please read our licence terms.
