Norwich, LNER poster, 1923-1947
Poster produced for the London & North Eastern Railway (LNER), promoting rail travel to Norwich in Norfolk: Its Quicker by Rail, showing two women and a man, dressed in 17th century costume, standing in a hall at the foot of a staircase in Strangers Hall. Built as a townhouse in mediaeval times, Strangers Hall passed into the ownership of a grocer, Francis Cock, in 1621. Cock was responsible for installing the impressive wooden staircase and bay window shown here. Artwork by Fred Taylor (1875-1963)
