EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a rare and highly sought-after map of Palestine from 1926. Created by Trietsch, Davis, this colour lithograph is part of the PalAastina-Wirtschafts-Atlas, a comprehensive atlas featuring 30 beautifully printed maps and charts. The map itself provides valuable insights into various aspects of Palestine during that time period. The second edition of this scarce atlas boasts an attractive graphic design and is preserved in excellent condition. Trietsch, originally from Dresden, Germany, later moved to New York where he studied Jewish migration. He played a significant role in promoting the Zionist cause and emigration to Palestine through his publications. Interestingly, Trietsch attended the historic First Zionist Congress in Basel, Switzerland in 1897 as one of only four Americans present and the sole American delegate. In the early 20th century, he returned to Germany and settled in Berlin before eventually relocating to Palestine himself in 1932. Remarkably rare with only one copy each found at institutions in Kiel and Vienna respectively for both editions combined; this particular print offers viewers a glimpse into Jewish workers' lives, land ownership patterns, population density statistics, industries overview including imports/exports data as well as capital investment trends within Palestine during that era. Overall, this remarkable piece serves as a testament to Trietsch's dedication towards advancing the Zionist movement while providing invaluable historical information about Palestine's socio-economic landscape nearly a century ago.
