The Periodic Table Digital Illustration
In the late 19th century, Russian chemist Dmitri Mendeleev published his first attempt at grouping chemical elements according to their atomic weights. There were only about 60 elements known at the time, but Mendeleev realized that when the elements were organized by weight, certain types of elements occurred in regular intervals, or periods.
Today chemists officially recognize 118 elements and still use Mendeleevs periodic table of elements to organize them. The table starts with the simplest atom, hydrogen, and then organizes the rest of the elements by atomic number, which is the number of protons each contains. With a handful of exceptions, the order of the elements corresponds with the increasing mass of each atom

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a digital illustration of "The Periodic Table". In the late 19th century, Dmitri Mendeleev, a brilliant Russian chemist, revolutionized our understanding of chemical elements. With only around 60 known elements at that time, Mendeleev ingeniously grouped them based on their atomic weights. He discovered that certain types of elements appeared in regular intervals or periods when organized this way. Fast forward to today, and we now officially recognize 118 elements. Remarkably, chemists still rely on Mendeleev's groundbreaking periodic table to organize these diverse building blocks of matter. The table commences with hydrogen, the simplest atom, and proceeds by arranging the remaining elements according to their atomic numbers - the number of protons they possess within their nuclei. While there are a few exceptions along the way, overall order corresponds with increasing mass for each atom. This educational artwork serves as an invaluable tool for science enthusiasts and students alike. Its white background provides clarity while its horizontal layout ensures ease of comprehension. The vibrant colors make it visually appealing and engaging for learners of all ages. Whether you're exploring metals or non-metals or delving into chemistry lessons at school or home study sessions – this Dorling Kindersley creation is sure to enhance your understanding and appreciation of the fascinating world behind every element on Earth!
