Bacteria found on mobile phone, SEM

Bacteria found on mobile phone. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of bacteria cultured from a mobile phone. Tests have revealed the average handset carries 18 times more potentially harmful germs than a flush handle in a mens toilet. With frequent use phones remain warm, creating the ideal breeding ground for bacteria. With touch-screen phones, the same part of the phone touched with fingertips is pressed up against the face and mouth, increasing chances of infection. In tests E. coli, Haemophilus influenzae and MRSA were amongst infectious bacteria found on handsets. Common harmless bacteria include Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus, Streptococcus viridans, Moraxella, and bacillus species. Magnification: x4000 when printed at 10cm wide

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print titled "Bacteria found on mobile phone, SEM" offers a fascinating glimpse into the microscopic world that exists on our everyday devices. In this coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM), we are presented with a startling revelation - our beloved mobile phones harbor an astonishing amount of potentially harmful germs. Studies have shown that the average mobile phone carries 18 times more bacteria than a men's toilet flush handle, making it a breeding ground for infection-causing organisms. The warmth generated by frequent use provides an ideal environment for these bacteria to thrive and multiply. What makes matters worse is that touch-screen phones bring the same part of the device touched by fingertips in direct contact with our face and mouth, significantly increasing the risk of infection transmission. Upon closer examination, tests have identified various infectious bacteria such as E. coli, Haemophilus influenzae, and MRSA residing on these handsets. However, not all bacteria found are harmful; some common harmless species like Staphylococcus epidermidis, Micrococcus, Streptococcus viridans, Moraxella, and bacillus were also discovered during analysis. With its false-colored presentation at x4000 magnification when printed at 10cm wide, this artwork serves as both a reminder of the unseen dangers lurking around us and an invitation to ponder over our hygiene practices in this digital age.
