This print showcases a bust portrait of James A. Garfield, who served as the 20th President of the United States from March 4, 1881, until his tragic assassination six and a half months later on September 19, 1881. Born on November 19, 1831, in Moreland Hills, Ohio, Garfield was a distinguished military officer and a renowned Congressman before being elected to the highest office in the land. The image, dated October 5, 1881, captures the essence of Garfield's strong character and intelligence. With a stern yet thoughtful expression, he gazes off into the distance, as if contemplating the weighty responsibilities that lay before him. His military uniform, adorned with medals and insignia, symbolizes his dedication and service to his country.
