EDITORS COMMENTS
Step back in time to the bustling suburbs of Bromley, Kent, in the 1910s, where the aroma of fresh meat and poultry filled the air at Arthur Graham and Albert William Withers' butcher shop on College Road. The partnership between Graham and Withers was a staple of the community, with an amazing array of meat and poultry on display, from succulent chickens and plump ducks to large carcasses of pigs and gooses. The shop owners and their assistants, dressed in aprons and wielding knives and cleavers, stood ready to serve their customers with a friendly smile and expert advice. The shop's sign, proudly displaying the name "Graham and Withers Butchers," hung above the entrance, beckoning passersby to come in and browse the selection. The shop's advertising boasted of the finest Norfolk turkeys and the freshest cuts of pork, attracting both locals and those from further afield. The partnership was dissolved in 1936, but Withers continued to run the business, carrying on the tradition of excellent customer service and quality meats that had made Graham and Withers a beloved institution in Bromley. This photograph captures a moment in time, a snapshot of a bygone era, when shopping for food was a personal and communal experience, and the butcher was a trusted and valued member of the community.
