Memorial to the 49th - West Riding - Division, Essex Farm
The 49th, a territorial division, came out early in 1915. It had the dubious distinction of being, together with the 6th Division, one of the first to face a phosgene attack. Between them the two divisions suffered over 1, 000 casualties. The memorial, on the bank of the Ieper canal behind Essex Farm CWGC Cemetery, was unveiled in 1924. Date: 2010
