Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Malta

Stamp Card produced by Ottmar Zeihar - Malta. These cards enabled collectors to see stamps which they were unable to obtain, or afford. There is a complete set of 180 cards, some of the smaller countries had a very low printing run and are hence very rare. Used Zeiher cards are very hard to find as the embossed stamp design was not approved by postal authorities as it confused the function of the proper stamps! Date: circa 1904

EDITORS COMMENTS
Discover the captivating world of Ottmar Zeihar's Stamp Cards from Malta, a unique and intriguing philatelic innovation from the early 1900s. These exquisite cards, published by Ottmar Zeihar, showcase stunning montages of stamps from various countries and regions, including some that were hard to obtain or too expensive for collectors at the time. The set comprises a complete collection of 180 cards, with a particular focus on smaller countries and regions that had limited print runs. Malta, a Mediterranean island nation, is one such example, and its cards are particularly rare due to the embossed stamp design that was not approved by postal authorities. This design, which was intended to make the cards look more like actual stamps, inadvertently caused confusion and was not accepted for postal use. Each card is a masterpiece of design, featuring intricate montages of coats of arms, crests, and other national symbols, beautifully arranged to create a visually striking representation of each country or region. These cards offer a fascinating glimpse into the philatelic world of the early 1900s, providing collectors with an unusual and engaging way to explore the stamps of various countries and regions. The Zeihar Stamp Cards from Malta are a testament to the enduring appeal of stamps and the passion they inspire in collectors. With their intricate designs and historical significance, these cards continue to captivate collectors and philatelists today, making them a valuable addition to any collection.
