This evocative photograph captures the front entrance of Nottingham Union Workhouse at Bagthorpe, Nottingham, as it appeared around the turn of the 20th century. Designed by architect Arthur Marshall, the imposing building and its accompanying large infirmary were opened in 1903, providing shelter and relief for the poor and destitute of Nottingham and the surrounding Midlands area.
