EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the iconic Grosvenor Cine/Bar Experience and Ace Bar, located on Alexandra Avenue in Rayners Lane, Harrow, Greater London. The image captures the triple-bowed frontage of this architectural gem from a north-west perspective. Originally opened as the Grosvenor Cinema in 1936, this establishment quickly became a beloved movie theatre for locals. In 1937, it was acquired by Odeon and operated under the name Gaumont Cinema until 1964. After its cinematic era ended in 1986, the building underwent a transformation into a vibrant bar and nightclub before eventually transitioning into a religious venue. Throughout its various incarnations, both interior and exterior features were meticulously preserved to retain their original charm. Notably, the triple-bowed projecting front remains intact along with an enchanting foyer that exudes timeless elegance. The photograph beautifully captures not only the architectural grandeur but also evokes nostalgia for an era when cinema was at its peak. This art deco masterpiece stands as a testament to London's rich cultural heritage and serves as a reminder of how buildings can adapt to changing times while retaining their unique character. Norman Walley's lens has perfectly captured this historic landmark - an embodiment of cinema history nestled within Harrow's bustling streetscape.
