Kitchen diner JLP01_08_078256

Victoria Park Estate, Macclesfield, Cheshire East. A kitchen diner in a flat at the Victoria Park development, built using the 12M Jespersen system.
In 1963, John Laing and Son Ltd bought the rights to the Danish industrialised building system for flats known as Jespersen (sometimes referred to as Jesperson). The company built factories in Scotland, Hampshire and Lancashire producing Jespersen prefabricated parts and precast concrete panels, allowing the building of housing to be rationalised, saving time and money. The Victoria Park development in Macclesfield, lying between the park and the centre of town, was built by Laing in two phases using the 12M Jespersen system. Providing around 500 flats, the design consisted of thirteen interlinked blocks forming a series of courts with landscaped gardens. The first phase was completed in 1968 with the second phase started in the same year

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases a kitchen diner in a flat at the Victoria Park Estate, located in Macclesfield, Cheshire East. Constructed using the innovative 12M Jespersen system, this development was brought to life by John Laing and Son Ltd in 1963. By establishing factories across Scotland, Hampshire, and Lancashire to manufacture Jespersen prefabricated parts and precast concrete panels, Laing revolutionized the construction process for housing. The Victoria Park development consists of thirteen interconnected blocks that form a series of charming courts adorned with beautifully landscaped gardens. With approximately 500 flats available, this architectural marvel perfectly exemplifies the rationalization of building homes while simultaneously saving valuable time and money. Completed in two phases – the first one finalized in 1968 and followed by immediate commencement of the second phase – these flats offer residents an inviting kitchen dining space within their cozy abodes. The interior design showcases stylish furniture arrangements that exude warmth and comfort. As we delve into this snapshot from yesteryears captured by Historic England Archive, we are transported back to an era where domestic living spaces were meticulously crafted with attention to detail.
