EDITORS COMMENTS
Amidst the rugged terrain of the Bolan Pass in Afghanistan, November 1878, British soldiers and their horses make their way through the treacherous landscape. The air is heavy with the scent of death as vultures circle above, eagerly anticipating their next meal. The Bolan Pass was one of the primary routes used by the British during their invasion of Afghanistan in November 1878. The invasion was a response to the growing threat of Russian influence in the region, and the British sought to secure their interests and establish a protectorate in Afghanistan. As the British forces pressed on, they encountered numerous challenges, including harsh weather conditions, difficult terrain, and resistance from local tribes. The passage through the Bolan Pass was particularly arduous, with its narrow and winding paths, steep inclines, and treacherous cliffs. Despite these challenges, the British continued their advance, driven by their determination to secure their position in Central Asia. However, the cost of the invasion was high, with many soldiers and civilians losing their lives along the way. The vultures overhead are a stark reminder of the harsh realities of the campaign. The carrion they feed on is a grim reminder of the many lives lost during the invasion. The image captures the raw and unforgiving nature of the landscape, as well as the tenacity and determination of the British forces in the face of adversity.
