China Clay - The Priest

China Clay - The Priest. Florence Mary Anderson / Molly MacArthur (1893-1972) had two distinct styles of illustration. From the middle of the 1920s, she moved on from earlier highly-decorative fairy art to produce beautiful monotone woodcuts in a distinctly oriental style. This artwork (as seen here) was produced under the name Molly MacArthur, or F.M. MacArthur.

Created in the 1920s, this artwork marks a significant shift from her earlier, highly decorative fairy art. The image showcases MacArthur's mastery of the monotone woodcut technique, producing a distinctly oriental style that sets it apart from her previous body of work. Born in 1893, Anderson's artistic journey began in the early 1900s, and by the 1920s, she had developed a unique and captivating style. Under the name Molly MacArthur or F.M. MacArthur, she produced a series of beautiful woodcut prints that were characterized by their intricate details, bold lines, and rich textures.
