This haunting image captures the devastation wrought by the German naval bombardment of Lowestoft, Suffolk, on the east coast of England in April 1916 during the First World War. The German High Seas Fleet, in an attempt to distract the British navy from the Battle of Jutland, launched a surprise attack on the town, resulting in significant damage to buildings along the seafront and nearby areas. The photograph shows the aftermath of the raid, with houses reduced to rubble and debris. The tragic loss of life during this attack was relatively small, with only two men, a woman, and a child losing their lives. The image serves as a poignant reminder of the destructive power of war and the human cost of conflict. The date of the photograph is 1916, and the location is Lowestoft, Suffolk, England.
