EDITORS COMMENTS
This chromolithograph showcases a stunning array of minerals and crystals, including kyanite, staurolite, andalusite, tourmaline, chiastolite, rubellite, cordierite, pyroxene, diopside, actinolite, amphibole, hypersthene, mountainleather, asbestos, serpentine, ophicalcite, and eclogite. Originally from Dr. Adolph Kenngott's Mineralogy section in Gotthilf Heinrich von Schubert's Natural History, published by Schreiber in Munich in 1886, this visual masterpiece invites us to explore the rich and diverse world of geology. Kyanite, a blue aluminum silicate mineral, is depicted in its brilliant hue, showcasing its distinct hexagonal crystal structure. Nearby, andalusite, a metamorphic mineral, is displayed in its brownish-red form. Staurolite, a ferromagnetic titanium-aluminum silicate mineral, is represented by its characteristic cross-shaped crystal aggregates. Asbestos, a naturally occurring silicate mineral, is also featured in this print. Although known for its historical use in various industries, it is important to note that its commercial application and health implications are subjects of ongoing debate and controversy. The remaining minerals and crystals, such as tourmaline, chiastolite, rubellite, cordierite, pyroxene, diopside, actinolite, amphibole, hypersthene, mountainleather, serpentine, ophicalcite, and eclogite, are displayed in their various colors and forms, offering a visual feast for the eyes and a testament to the natural world's beauty and complexity.
