This evocative photograph captures the determination and courage of three pioneering women - Christabel Pankhurst, Emmeline Pankhurst, and Flora Drummond - as they defended their actions during the infamous "rush" on the House of Commons in October 1908. The image, taken at Bow Street Magistrates Court in London, shows Christabel passionately addressing the magistrate, her mother Emmeline and Flora Drummond looking on. The Sphere reported that Emmeline and Flora also delivered impassioned speeches, with Emmeline comparing her daughters' actions to the famous defense of Antonio by Portia in Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice.
