This evocative photograph captures the Lady Franklin Public House, located in the heart of Camberwell, London, during the 1930s. The image, taken from the front, showcases the pub's distinctive facade, with its ornate brickwork and large, arched windows. The pub, which was not affiliated with the Charrington and Company Limited, was a beloved local institution in the SE5 0DB postal area. Though the exact date of this photograph is unknown, we do know that the Lady Franklin had a rich history, with trading records dating back to 1924 and continuing until 1944. Sadly, this historic building met its demise in 1930, making this photograph an invaluable record of a bygone era. The pub, which may have been known simply as a "boozer," "bar," or "public house," was a gathering place for the local community. It likely offered a warm, welcoming atmosphere, where friends could meet over a pint and share stories. The Lady Franklin's demise marked the loss of yet another piece of Camberwell's rich history.
