EDITORS COMMENTS
Caption: "A Fond Farewell to a Long-standing Huddersfield Swimming Club". In this heartwarming photo print, we witness the end of an era as a beloved Huddersfield swimming club closes its doors after more than 50 years. Mrs Hazel Kaye, the dedicated leader of the Huddersfield Bath Club since 1958, has decided to retire, marking the end of an incredible journey that began three years prior when she first became involved. The club, which provided a nurturing environment for youngsters aged between three and 18 at Cambridge Road Baths, holds countless cherished memories for generations of swimmers. To honor her unwavering commitment and tireless efforts in shaping young lives through swimming, Mrs Kaye is captured holding a china plate featuring Cambridge Road Baths—a heartfelt gift presented by grateful helpers at the voluntary club. Additionally, children from the club express their gratitude by gifting her with a beautiful cut glass rosebowl. Joining Mrs Kaye in this special moment are Maud Lonsbrough—the mother of Olympic swimming gold medalist Anita Lonsbrough—who led the club for eight years during Mrs Kaye's break after having two children—and instructress Patricia Heywood. Their presence serves as a testament to the strong bonds formed within this close-knit community. As we reflect on this photograph from March 27th, 1991—capturing smiles and happiness—we celebrate not only the retirement of an exceptional leader but also pay tribute to all
