Zoo owner John Aspinall is well known for his fearless escapades with his pet tigers

Zoo owner John Aspinall is well known for his fearless escapades with his pet tigers. Despite their natural advantages, he feels quite at home joining in with their playful pranks. Hes even had them pouncing over this head... but these five young tigers at his private zoo in Bekesbourne, near Canterbury, don t let Mr. Aspinall have it all his own way. They may be ready to give him a fickle feline kiss, but if he turns to go before the end of the game, they can always catch him by the tail so to speak. Its all in fun, of course, and the Mayfair gambling club owner is well used to trying his luck. But when the zoo opens to the public for the first time on Saturday (3-7-71) the tiger cage is strictly out of bounds. Except for the gambler. A kiss...John Aspinall accepts a warm embrace from one of his attentive young tigers.

EDITORS COMMENTS
In this photo print, we witness the fearless escapades of renowned zoo owner John Aspinall with his beloved pet tigers. Known for his audacious nature, Mr. Aspinall fearlessly engages in playful pranks with these majestic creatures, even allowing them to pounce over his head. However, it seems that the tables have turned as five young tigers at his private zoo in Bekesbourne near Canterbury refuse to let him have it all his own way. Captured on a memorable day when the zoo opened its doors to the public for the first time on July 3rd, 1971, this particular tiger cage remains strictly off-limits except for Mr. Aspinall himself. The Mayfair gambling club owner is no stranger to taking risks and trying his luck; however, he finds solace and affection within the warm embrace of one of these attentive young tigers. This heartwarming image showcases not only Mr. Aspinall's deep connection with these fickle feline creatures but also highlights their playful nature and undeniable bond. Photographer George Greenwell skillfully captures this moment frozen in time - an intimate exchange between man and beast that reminds us of our shared existence on this planet. As we gaze upon this photograph from Memory Lane Prints, we are reminded of the extraordinary relationships that can form between humans and animals when respect and love intertwine seamlessly across species boundaries.
