Erwin Schrodinger, caricature C013 / 7591
Erwin Schrodinger (1887-1961). Caricature of the Austrian physicist Erwin Schrodinger holding a cat. In 1926, Schrodinger published a series of papers that founded the science of quantum wave mechanics. His wave equation described the wave- like dual behaviour of particles, and correctly predicted the electron distribution of the hydrogen atom. He shared the 1933 Nobel Prize for Physics with Paul Dirac. He was Physics Professor at Berlin University from 1927-1933, eventually settling in Ireland and retiring to Austria in 1956

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the renowned Austrian physicist Erwin Schrodinger, immortalized in a comical caricature. With a mischievous smile on his face, Schrodinger holds a cat in his arms, symbolizing his famous thought experiment known as "Schrodinger's Cat". Erwin Schrodinger made groundbreaking contributions to the field of quantum mechanics with his 1926 publication on wave mechanics. His revolutionary wave equation described the dual behavior of particles and accurately predicted electron distribution within hydrogen atoms. This remarkable achievement earned him the prestigious Nobel Prize for Physics in 1933, which he shared with Paul Dirac. During his illustrious career, Schrodinger served as a Physics Professor at Berlin University from 1927 to 1933 before eventually settling in Ireland. In this whimsical portrayal captured by artist Gary Brown, we see not only Schrodinger's scientific brilliance but also his playful nature. The monochrome sketch beautifully captures both the historical significance of this brilliant mind and the lightheartedness that characterized him. Against a clean white background, this cutout illustration stands out as an artistic representation of one of physics' most influential figures. Whether you are fascinated by atomic structures or simply appreciate art that combines comedy and science seamlessly, this portrait is sure to captivate your imagination. It serves as a reminder of Erwin Schrodinger's immense contributions to our understanding of quantum mechanics and particle duality—a true winner among scientific minds throughout history.
