The egg cell is surrounded by a thick layer of follicular cells known as zona granulosa and then by zona pellucida, the yellow glycoprotein layer. The round body at the centre is the nucleus which has three endoplasmic reticulums attached to it. The nucleus contains DNA and RNA, a large quantity of protein called nucleoprotein and enzymes responsible for DNA and RNA synthesis. RNA is synthesised in the nucleolus, the sponge-like structure within the nucleus. At the bottom right is a Golgi body.
