Human skull, artwork

Human skull, artwork. The skull consists of the cranium (upper area) which encases and protects the brain, and the facial bones. The facial bones form the eye sockets, the nasal socket, and the jaw bones. The upper jaw bone (maxilla) also acts as the cheek bones. The lower jaw (mandible) is hinged at the rear to allow chewing and speech. Both jaw bones contain teeth. Across bottom are the clavicles (collar bones). The neck vertebrae (spinal bones) are seen below the skull

EDITORS COMMENTS
This artwork print showcases the intricate details of a human skull, beautifully illustrating the complexity and elegance of our internal anatomy. The skull is composed of two main parts: the cranium, which safeguards and envelops the brain, and the facial bones that form essential features such as eye sockets, nasal cavity, and jaws. Delicately crafted teeth are found within both upper and lower jawbones, facilitating crucial functions like chewing and speech. The image also captures other significant components surrounding the skull. The clavicles or collar bones gracefully rest at its base while below it lies a glimpse of neck vertebrae or spinal bones. This comprehensive portrayal offers an insightful view into how these various elements work in harmony to support our everyday movements. Rendered with meticulous attention to detail by Science Photo Library's talented artists, this artwork print not only serves as a visually stunning piece but also provides educational value for those interested in understanding human anatomy. It allows us to appreciate the remarkable intricacies hidden beneath our skin while reminding us of our own mortality—a reminder that even in death there is beauty to be found.
