Planetary conjunction
Planetary conjunction. Image 2 of 5. Planets in the evening sky just after sunset on the evening of 5th May 2002. At upper left is Jupiter. The brightest of the planets seen just above the horizon is Venus. Left and slightly above Venus is the fainter Saturn. Above and slightly right of Saturn is Mars. Right and below Venus, not far above the horizon, is Mercury. At lower centre, below and left of Saturn, is the bright star Aldebaran (Alpha Tauri) in the constellation Taurus. For a sequence of the movements of these planets between 30th April and 14th May, see images R300/163-167
