Snow in south central Alaska

May 17, 2009 - Though it is nearing the end of May, there is still snow in south central Alaska. The snow lies mainly on the caps of the higher mountains; the lower elevations are green and brown with vegetation. Left of center, Cook Inlet is filled with sediment, probably a mixture of tidal action and river outflow. Anchorage is at the north end of the Inlet. Denali National Park (and Mount McKinley, the highest peak in the US) lie further inland to the north. At right, the Chugach Mountains line the coast of the Gulf of Alaska, and behind them are the Wrangell Mountains

EDITORS COMMENTS
This print showcases the stunning beauty of south central Alaska in late May. Despite the approaching summer season, snow still blankets the higher mountains, creating a breathtaking contrast against the green and brown vegetation that adorns the lower elevations. The focal point of this image is Cook Inlet, which appears filled with sediment due to a combination of tidal action and river outflow. Anchorage, located at the north end of Cook Inlet, serves as a gateway to Denali National Park and Mount McKinley – the highest peak in the United States. As we gaze further inland to the north, we catch a glimpse of these majestic landmarks nestled within Denali National Park. To our right lies an awe-inspiring sight: The Chugach Mountains gracefully lining Alaska's Gulf coast. Behind them stand proudly another mountain range known as Wrangell Mountains. This satellite view photograph captures not only Alaska's diverse topography but also its ever-changing landscapes. With no human presence visible in this image, it allows us to appreciate nature's untouched magnificence from afar. The white snow-capped peaks against brown landforms create an enchanting visual spectacle that reminds us of Alaska's unique geographical features. This extraordinary print by Stocktrek Images encapsulates both tranquility and grandeur while showcasing one of Earth's most remarkable corners - south central Alaska.
