EDITORS COMMENTS
This print captures the exquisite artwork of "Hovering Cupid" by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, dating back to the mid-18th century. Created with chalk on paper, this piece was once part of Dr Hans Wendland's collection in Lugano, Switzerland. Tiepolo, an Italian Venetian painter and printmaker, left a lasting impact not only in Italy but also in Germany and Spain. Known for his frescoes adorning churches and palaces, he was elected President of the Academy of Padua. His artistic repertoire extended beyond large-scale works to include etchings and oil paintings. Considered one of the most significant artists of his time, Tiepolo's attention to detail is evident in this allegorical figure. The hovering cupid exudes a sense of ethereal beauty as it floats delicately above its surroundings. This illustration is featured in Volume II of "The Drawings of Giovanni Battista Tiepolo" by Detlev Baron Von Hadeln. Published by The Pegasus Press in Paris during 1928, this volume showcases Tiepolo's mastery through monochrome imagery.
