EDITORS COMMENTS
In this heartwarming print from 1989, three-year-old Phillip Auckland steals the spotlight as he proudly presents a £50 cheque to Dr. Michael Miller, a consultant paediatrician at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary. The generous donation comes from the Denby Dale Mothers and Toddlers Group's committee funds and aims to support those battling Cystic Fibrosis. But their philanthropic efforts don't stop there! This compassionate group of mothers is also giving £50 cheques to two other worthy causes. The first is the West Yorkshire Ambulance Service Heartbeat Appeal, which will use the funds to purchase life-saving equipment for heart attack victims. The second beneficiary is a Sheffield children's hospital where one of the toddlers in their group received treatment for a kidney problem. This snapshot captures not only an act of kindness but also showcases the power of community spirit and compassion towards those in need. It serves as a reminder that even small gestures can make a significant impact on people's lives. The year was 1989, an era known for its charitable endeavors and collective efforts towards social welfare. This photograph stands as a testament to the selflessness exhibited by individuals like young Phillip Auckland and his supportive mothers' group who dedicated themselves to making positive changes within their local community.
